Primal Sports Nutrition recently hosted the 2015 Rhino Powerlifting push-pull championships.

Push-pull is composed of the bench press and dead-lift events. Competitors are given three attempts to lift their heaviest weight for each event, under strict powerlifting rules judged by 3 referees. The heaviest lift from each event is added along with the lifters body weight to a power-to-weight ratio algorithm in order to determine the winner.

Jaco de Waal, the 2014 GPC overall best lifter in the world won the men’s division with a spectacular 202.5kg bench press and a 317.5kg dead-lift at only 89kg body weight. Philip Armstrong was placed second and Micheal Barnard third.

Sonja de Waal, the 2014 push-pull champion won the women’s division with a 105kg bench press and a 175kg deadlift at 67kg body weight which is a feat most men cannot accomplish.

Primal Sport Nutrition sponsored over R10 000 worth of prizes.

Primal Sport Nutrition encourages local gym goers to start competing and hopes to see more local talent at the next event.
